MARK WILSON

Mark Wilson, founder of New Leonard Media, brings a wealth of experience and dedication to  his role as a community leader in northwest Michigan. As an enrolled member of the Grand  Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians, Mark is deeply committed to serving his Tribe and the broader community. 

With a background in visual communications, audio/video production, community advocacy,  and political science, Mark holds a Masters of Public Administration from Central Michigan  University (2016) and a Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Studies from Grand Valley State University  (2014), specializing in Tribal Governance. Additionally, he is a graduate of the Conservatory of  Recording Arts and Sciences (2008), where he honed his technical skills. 

Mark's journey in media began at Britten Studios, where he gained invaluable experience in the  art department, contributing to projects for national events, retail centers, and major sporting  arenas. Transitioning to the Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians (GTB), Mark  played a crucial role in enhancing the tribe's online presence and multimedia capabilities as a  Multimedia Specialist in the Communications Department. His innovative approach led to the  implementation of an automated video system for streaming GTB Tribal Council Sessions and  meetings. 

Elected to the GTB Tribal Council in 2014, Mark served in various leadership capacities,  including Vice-Chair and Chairman of the Natural Resources and Environmental Committee.  During his tenure, he represented the tribe on multiple boards and authorities, advocating for  the interests of Indian Country at both regional and national levels. 

In addition to his tribal responsibilities, Mark currently serves as Mayor Pro Tem for the City of  Traverse City, Michigan, demonstrating his commitment to public service and community  development. 

Through New Leonard Media, Mark continues to leverage his expertise to empower  communities and amplify voices. He believes in doing business ethically and collaboratively,  striving to make a positive impact on the lives of individuals and future generations. Mark's  dedication to community betterment has earned him recognition, including being named  among the "20 Fascinating People" by Northern Express (2022), receiving the "Outstanding  Alumni" award from Grand Valley State University's Brooks College of Interdisciplinary Studies  (2017), and being featured in "40 Under 40" by Traverse City Business News (2014).
